If your Georgia-issued birth certificate is endorsed with the signature of a Health Officer or County Registrar before you can mail your certificate to our office for apostille processing, please make sure that you complete one of the following: Have your birth certificate certified by the County Clerk’s office in the county in which it was issued, or obtain a certified copy of that birth certificate from the county recorder or the State of Georgia Department of Public Health. The signature, name, and title of the public official can be found at the bottom of a birth certificate. The Georgia Secretary of State issues an Apostille for the signatures of the following: county clerks and their deputies, county recorders and their deputies, and the State Registrar which is Georgia Department of Public Health. You can request your original birth certificate directly from the State of Georgia Department of Public Health in person or by mail.

Please note that birth records are only available from Georgia Department of Public Health Vital Records after they have been recorded by the County Recorder's Office. Because of the delays resulting from this process, Vital Records recommends that birth certificate certified copies be requested from the County Health Department or the County Recorder's Office for the first 3 months after the event. Once you obtain an original or a certified copy of your Georgia birth certificate, you can mail it to our office for apostille processing.
