Have a document to apostille? Visit Our Services page to start the process of legalizing your documents for use in a foreign country.

For driving in a foreign country your US-issued driver’s license (DL) must be apostilled. Georgia Apostille can obtain an apostille on your driver’s license.

To get your driver’s license apostilled, you must first have a color copy of it notarized by a notary public in the state where your license was issued. For example, if you have a DL from the State of California, only a notary public licensed in California can notarize a copy of your driver’s license. You can bring your original license to a notary office and a notary can make a color copy of it, or you can bring a color copy for a notary to notarize. Make sure you choose an experienced notary with a valid license and knowledge of notarial laws in your state.

Before mailing a copy of your driver’s license to our office for apostille processing please check that it has the signature of a notary, a notary seal, the date, and the notarial affidavit if needed. The incorrectly notarized copy will not be accepted for apostille processing.

If you are located outside of the United States and need your US driver’s license apostilled, you can mail your original license to a family member or another trusted person in the US. They can take your original DL to a local notary and obtain a notarized copy of your license. Remember that your driver’s license can only be notarized and apostilled in the state where it was issued. So, if your driver’s license was issued in Georgia, only Georgia notary public can notarize a copy of it and the apostille on it will also be processed by the Georgia Secretary of State.

Once you receive a notarized copy of your driver’s license you can mail it to our office for apostille processing. If you are abroad and don’t have anyone in the state that issued your driver’s license you can mail the original driver’s license to our office and we will take care of both obtaining a notarized copy and getting an apostille on it.

If you plan to use your US-issued driver’s license in a country that is not a member of the Hague Apostille Treaty, your driver’s license will require a different process of authentication, including certification by the US Department of State and legalization through the Embassy/Consulate.
